The structural system for the technical center and mechanical building is composite slabs over a steel frame supported by a deep foundation system of pile caps on augured cast-in- place piles. The lateral loads are resisted by a combination of concrete shear walls and steel moment and braced frames.
In designing the structure, challenges included designing the atrium for the additional loads of a vegetative roof and sloping columns as well as the design of a monumental stair with spiral curves. This project was fast-tracked with an early foundation package followed by a core and shell package to meet the Owner’s required occupancy date.
